Summer Readings

Week of 5 July, St. Andrew’s Church

The Old Testament prophets write of someone coming along after years of neglect, dusting off some old scriptures, and reading them to entire congregations.  Perhaps it’s time for us to dust off the scriptures and just read them in church for anyone who is passing by.

Any fellow Coniston church members are welcome to come in and read.  To sign-up or take a look at the schedule, sign in as a guest at the following link.  Contact Mark on 41262 or Pamela on 41997 for the password.

It is thought that we will begin with the book of Jeremiah (as written in The Message) then time permitting, move to Luke, Romans and finally Revelation.

Happy Reading!

How Great is Our God

Tuesday, 9 June, 19:30 at St. Andrew’s Church, Coniston

Hazel was positively on fire last Tuesday evening with news of this DVD.  For a moment we deliberated on whether to carry on with Daniel or listen to How Great is Our God.  Ultimately we decided that more than just our home group should get the chance to see this so we will show it live in the church on Tuesday night.

The Greatest Story Ever Told

In December, my family gathered in Nashville, Tn just after Christmas.  It was one of the rare occasions when we all could be together.  We came from the UK, Ohio, MN and GA to see one another.

To ensure that we actually went out together, my Mother booked tickets to see The Rockettes Christmas show.  We had no idea what to expect but found that it was a total delight.   For the finale, a screen went down and behind it could be seen a nativity scene with the baby Jesus, Joseph and Mary.  When the screen went up, live camels and sheep were revealed and wise men came up through the audience bearing gifts with the words ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told” to rapturous applause.

The events celebrated this week, culminating with the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday, are the reason why the story of Jesus is The Greatest Story Ever Told.  When Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem, he wept.  He knew everything before him and all he felt was love for the souls he was going to save through this incredible act of sacrifice.

One day we will each find ourselves on a road of no return.   Could Jesus have stopped short of the cross?  Could he have opted out?  What will be our response when our time comes?  May you all be blessed with new life this Easter.

New Course - The Christian Life and Why It Makes Sense

Why is it that most non-Christians don’t seem to “get” Christianity?

Why is no-one really listening?

Why are we not talking?

Based on Stephen Gaukroger’s best-selling book “It Makes Sense”, Christian Life & Why It Makes Sense aims to give people the teaching and confidence to tackle some of the most common objections to the Christian faith.

• understand why they are not listening and why we are not talking about our faith;

• be more confident in the existence of God and in explaining that fact;

• tackle one of the main barriers to faith, suffering;

• understand why Jesus is so special;

• unpack why the Church really is great;

• build your faith in a God who is always with us.

Begins Tuesday 13th November, 7.30pm in St Andrew’s Church &

Wednesday 14th November 2.00 pm in St Andrew’s Church (Come along to either one)
